Hand-built at our "world headquarters" in Canada Tilley Hats are made of strong, soft, long-lasting 10 oz. cotton duct.  The tough thread we use to sew them with (with lockstitches) is polyester,  wrapped within a cotton cover.  (This stops the manmade fibre from actually cutting through the 
cotton duck.)   

Open-cell foam in the sweatband picks up perspiration; the closed-cell foam in the crown enables the Tilley to float - and softens the blow of sailboat's boom, or of a lowhanging branch. The Velcro-closed pocket in the crown holds 8 "Brag Tags" which  can get the wearer in trouble if  he or she wishes.  Wearers can carry a key, or money, or a fishing license in the pocket too..
